I was a classical archaeology major in college (which continues to weird out my medical cohorts), and I still have a fond spot in my heart for the subject.
The Oxford Encyclopedia
of Archaeology in the Near East provides both useful and useless information
about archaeology in the Ancient Near East (present-day Middle East).
New archaeological
discoveries in the Ancient Near East. Look for Tel Miqne (ancient Ekron) where
I spent a summer digging.... Ah, those memories of checking my sneakers before
putting them on -- looking for scorpions, of course.
The Philistines were not
really philistines. This paper "gives Goliath his due". Lots of stuff on Tel
Miqne.
I couldn't decide whether
The Archaeology in Fiction
Bibliography belonged on my books page or here in archaeology, so I put it in
both places. Great list of works of fiction with archaeologists as characters or
archaeology involved in the story.
This section is a weird conglomeration of stuff which I like but is otherwise unclassifiable. These websites probably give you way too much of a glimpse into the workings of my mind....
I think Brown
University is simply the best college in the US. But then again, I'm
prejudiced.
Washington Post's
Crosswords on-line -- really fun to do this way! And they don't make you
register or charge you.
The NJ Devils -- One of my
more bizarre obsessions, but it is a long-lasting one. I am a bit irked at their
amazing ability to choke in the first round of the playoffs.!
Say
"Conjunction, Junction"
to anyone of my generation and listen to the answer! ("What's
your function?")
Take the
Densa quiz and see how smart you
really are!
The Pride and Prejudice Paradise celebrates one of best miniseries I have ever
seen on TV -- the 1995 BBC version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
It lived up to my high expectations and surpassed them. The site has lots of great
info.
I am certainly no computer programmer, but I like fooling around with the thing. Even though I helped build my computer, I treat it like a "black box." I turn it on and it just works. If it doesn't, I call Larry, my resident computer guru.
