Welcome to my brand new nephew Nicholas who was born in Germany last night, a whopping 52 cm and 3200 g -- four weeks before his scheduled due date! If he keeps this up, he'll beat the crap out of my boys in a few years. In keeping with family tradition, he's sleepy, has black hair and blue eyes, and will grow up trilingually (in his case, German, Spanish and French).
Congratulations, Hajo and Maria!
I could hug the entire world.
Posted by claudia at January 16, 2006 08:26 AM52 cm and 3200 g translates into 20.5" and 7 lb. Not really whopping in my experience, but close to average.
My two babies were 3860 g (8.5 lb) and 56 cm (22 in), and 4570 g (10 lb 1 oz) and 58.5 cm (23 in)!! My doctor described the second as giving birth to a toddler! :)
Posted by: Christine at January 16, 2006 02:47 PMIt's whopping for a preemie, which he technically is, being born 4 (four) weeks early.
Just imagine his size at due date!
Posted by: claudia at January 16, 2006 03:48 PMThere will probably be a period of very fast "catch up" growth in the first couple months. My son was born 4 weeks early and about the same size as your nephew (6 lbs. 10 oz, 21 inches). This placed him in the 25th percentile for birth weight. Within 3 months he had reached the 75th percentile, and he has remained there for the most part.
Yay! Wubba! More yay!
Posted by: Carlos at January 16, 2006 08:07 PMYay! And lots more yays! Someone for Jacob to play with, when his older brothers start to beat on him... I am sure Nicholas is beautiful. Please send my congrats to Hajo and Maria.
