Cold

fpi_glasses.jpg It's cold outside.

Snow and cold all this past week: a few degrees below zero during the days, down to -10 or -15 at night. That's Celsius. Fahrenheit, say high 20s day, single digits to low teens at night.

And before someone from Finland or Wisconsin jumps in and tells me that's not cold: it's the coldest we've been here yet, okay? And I think it's quite respectably chilly for a place that's just 250 miles from the Mediterranean.

The streets are very icy. Yesterday I dragged the boys around the block on their little green plastic sled. There's still lots of powdery snow on the ground, too. Wow, does Alan love to shovel snow. No, really. Claudia bought him a child-sized snow shovel, and he just charges to the attack. He likes snow.

No, I have no idea either. Recessive genes? Cosmic rays?

Actually, that's colder than it is here in Wisconsin at the moment. We've been consistently above freezing during the daylight hours for almost a week, now, and it hit the mid-40s(F) last weekend.

20F in the daytime is COLD, and don't let anybody tell you different, Doug.

Glad to hear the boys are enjoying it, though. :)

Diane, I'm shocked! It's not COLD until one's extremities begin to hurt. The Ice Bowl was COLD. Scott at the Pole was COLD. Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic was COLD. Note that of those three, only the Green Bay people survived.

20 F can be a little nippy, sure, if the sun isn't out. But at least one's custard cone won't melt.

If a plane filled with Wisconsin people crashed in the Andes, they wouldn't have to resort to cannibalism. (On the other hand, why pass up the opportunity? "Raise your hand if you're from Illinois!")

You knew it was coming.

I'm not from Wisconsin or Finland. I'm just another newly minted New Englander, by way of California and Mexico.

Dude and dudette, high 20s ain't freakin' cold. You can expose skin to the air, right? Your kids actually wanted to play outside, si?

Not cold at all.

Best,

Noel
