An odd one: what do Pisistratus, Vuk Karadzic, and John A. Lomax have in common?
Answer or confirmation when I get back from the Shore.

Posted by: Carlos at June 21, 2004 04:18 AMWell, they all supported a revival of folk culture...but thatīs a rather weak connection.
Posted by: Christian at June 21, 2004 04:55 PMIt's close, though. Each of them made possible the compilation a vast amount of previously unwritten but culturally important oral poetry. Pisistratus, Homer; Karadzic, the _Srpske narodne pjesme_; and Lomax, his collection of American ballads and blues. Of course Lomax, like his contemporary Milman Parry, was able to record the audio as well.
Something I plan on posting about in the near future.
