Hmm...

fpi_girl.jpg If Romania is not getting ready for an imminent war, or preparing for Bush or the Pope to visit, then my next guess is that they are practising for a huge military display on December 1, Romania's national day.

For two days now, soldiers grace the streets everywhere, fighter planes and choppers thunder over our house frequently and I've never seen so much police since we arrived.

Our maid and nanny don't know what this is about. Does anyone else?

346 days of practice?

OK, I could see that.

National day is on 1st December.
I saw the helicopters today. I think there is a connection with Turkey and the events happening over there, but also your idea is good.. and I guess we'll find out soon if they do plan a military parade in Bucharest.
In the last years the presidency & government organized celebrations in Alba Iulia (1918 is the year when the Romanian countries united with Transilvania)
I do not know much history but I can search google for some details ;)

Have a nice day!

Oops.

December 1 is what I meant, of course. I corrected it in the post. Now your comments seem off the mark. Heh, that's life in the 21st century!

I saw the news on Antena 1 tonight.
They said today in Alba Iulia it was a preview of the show which is suppose to take part on 1st December. Troops, helicopters, airplanes, tanks... lots of vroom vroom :)
Probably in Bucharest they will just put some flowers under the arch of triumph.

That's why I included the quote. ^_^

More details:
Looks like we'll have a military show (parade?) also in Bucharest... today they did some practice in the "Arch of Triumph" area. Helicopters included.

Ah! Thanks, Anca!! Maybe we'll go see it - there's bound to be much "vroom, vroom" for a little boy, eh? OTOH, I did want to raise a peace-loving child. Let's see what the weather is like.
