Animated Beginning Typing

Version: 1.10
Summary: Typing tutor
License: Shareware
Author: Tom Guthery IV (Flix Productions)
Download: atype11.zip (Mar 2 1997, 982.6K)
Description:
Animated Beginning Typing for Windows and Win 95, v1.10, is designed for young typists, and teaches proper typing technique for the letter keys. Sound effects and animation are used to make learning to type fun (and funny). Help is given with an animated tutorial, a screen to show proper fingering, and an on-screen keyboard which highlights the correct key when needed.
There are three games in the program. "Jumping Letters" is designed for very young students, and can be played at any pace. Each correctly typed letter is rewarded with the letter being removed by an animated "critter" chosen by the pupil. When 10 letters are completed (context-sensitive help insures success), the child gets a silly cartoon.
"Letter Drill" allows students to choose between 20 and 120 letters to practice. A report is generated at the end of the practice showing words per minute, errors, and time. The last letter in the sequence is removed in a silly way by a "critter", then the pupil is rewarded with a cartoon.
"Flying Letters" is an arcade style game for advanced typists. The speed of the game is determined by the player (and can be changed at any time during the game). A report is generated at the end of the game, and a funny animation is displayed.
All three games allow the student to choose a group of letters (such as left hand home keys), or to practice all 26 letters.

It can be used for learning all topics which can be arranged in a two field order like vocabulary (e.g. English-German), geography (state-capital), history (president-reign), etc.. You can learn single words or short phrases and/or numerical terms.
The Multi-Trainer shows you one term (expression) and you must find the corresponding answer in an alphabetical or numerical ordered scrollboard and click on it with the mouse. The direction of the asking can be chosen at will, or you can let change the software the asking direction at random. All terms which are not mastered will automatically be asked more often and you can save those hard-to-learn terms in concentrated files. Although this system works without using the keyboard, a very high concentration is enforced and it shows unusual good learning results.
Switch with a mouseclick from English to German. Manuals in English and German as <Write> files. This Freeware version can be used with all existing learnfiles. It includes some sample learnfiles and further learnfiles can be downloaded from our homepage. To create your own new learnfiles the <Pro> version is needed.

When opponents make the same word, it is zapped from their lists. Instant definitions are given for obscure words. Four game options are available: Easyzap, LongZap, WordZap and MatchZap, increasing in difficulty. You can play in English, French, German or Spanish. As you get better at WordZap, the computer opponent also becomes more clever to match your ability. If you like Boggle or Scrabble you will like WordZap.
