FASTPACK

Summary: 16-bit dll to compress/decompress data
License: Demo.
Download: fastpack.zip (Mar 26 1999, 88.8K)
Description:
This dll contains 3 functions - One to compress, one to decompress, one
to check data. Files up to tens of megabytes compress/decompress
immediately. It is also impossible to change anything in compressed
data. The speed is higher than in zip, the compression ratio on
databases and text is equal to zip and little bit lower in other causes
(5-10 % lower than zip). If your program contains a large database,
keep it compressed and decompress each time while executing, it's fast.
Detailed manual & delphi interface module inside the package. It is
possible to use it with any win16 compiler. No temporary files are
created while compressing.

LHEX

Summary: Double-click LHA archive expander. Free w/src
License: Freeware
Author: John C. Nash, University of Ottawa
Email: jcnash@uottawa.ca
Homepage: http://macnash.admin.uottawa.ca/
Download: lhex11.zip (Aug 30 1999, 287.4K)
Description:
LHEX allows double-click on LHA archives (type .lzh) to create a
sub-directory with the name of the archive and extract files into it.
This avoids confusing extracted files with existing ones in the
directory holding the archive file. The behaviour is similar to the
Aladdin Expander 2 which does not handle LHA archives, but LHEX does not
attempt to create "versions" of the sub-directories. Pascal source code
is provided. Runs under File Manager in Windows 3.1 as well as Win
95/98. Has not been tested under Win NT, but is believed to run in this
environment also.

Acknowledgement: The installer includes a copy of LHA2.55 as required by
the author of that package.

LZA

Summary: LZSS archiver for Win32, Win16, and DOS. Free
License: Freeware
Author: Dr. Abimbola A. Olowofoyeku (The African Chief)
Email: laa12@keele.ac.uk
Homepage: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/African_Chief/
Download: lza101.zip (Jan 21 1999, 607.2K)
Description:
This package provides yet another archive format for PCs. However, not
only is it free, the full (Borland Pascal/Delphi) source code to the
compression engines used in the package is available for free from my
homepage. When using the "Maximum Compression" option, the compression
ratio is as good as ZIP's "deflate" method, but there is a slight speed
loss.

Features include: single file compression and decompression, archive
compression and decompression, self-extracting archive ("SFX") support -
several "STUB" programs supplied, password protection for archives,
disk spanning, up to 8,192 files in each archive (more if you edit the
source code), DOS, DOS DPMI, Win16, and Win32 binaries, GUI and command
line binaries, CRC checking of files in archives, viewing the contents
of archives, stores version information from Windows binaries (the
Windows versions only), long filename support under Windows 9x, and
Windows NT, optionally stores and restores directory paths, this
archive format is now being supported by some 3rd party programs,
uses patent-free LZSS and Huffman compression algorithms, maximum
compression is as good as ZIP's "deflation".

Special Requirements: None.

WZIPSE

Summary: Creates self-extracting ZIP files
License: Shareware
Download: wzipse21.exe (Jul 16 1997, 586.8K)
Description:
WinZip Self-Extractor is a utility program that creates native Windows self-extracting ZIP files. These self-extracting ZIP files are useful for electronic file distribution because they: (1) can contain multiple compressed files, ensuring that important files do not become separated from the rest of the package; (2) allow the receiver to use a familiar Windows interface to decompress files, without owning or knowing how to use a separate unzip utility; and (3) optionally run a "setup" or "installation" program, which may be included by the developer when the files are decompressed.
*** Summary Of Key Features
- Easy distribution of one or more compressed files.
- Low overhead (as little as 12kb, depending on selected options)
- Options to create 16-bit or 32-bit Windows self-extractors, or
MS-DOS+Windows self-extractors (one EXE works on either MS-DOS
or Windows).
- An optional command is run when the unzip operation completes,
making it easy to run a SETUP program included in a
self-extracting ZIP file.
- A Wizard to simplify the process of building self-extracting
files.
- Any folder information in the ZIP is automatically restored.
- 100% compatible with the PKZIP 2.04g standard.
wzipse21.exe has replaced wzipse10.exe and wzipse20.exe.
