other, e.g. different version of source code. It matches up the two
files, displays them side by side, and displays the similarities and
highlights the differences between them. Files to be compared may be of
unlimited length.

@Compare is especially well-suited for use with textual data which is
arranged in fields of columns -- that is, where each row represents a
record, and groups of columns represent, say, surnames, given names,
identification codes and so on. In such cases, @Compare will create
reports of differences which are sorted and arranged by these

Text may be color coded, and viewer features search, export of original text, print, change colors, and a lightning-fast scroll algorithm. The compiler allows files up to 32,767 lines, each of 80 characters max., and has a variety of switches via a simple interface to control export permission, ZIPping with password, and default color schemes etc. No difficult command line syntax to learn. This program has been in the field for a number of years now, and has been adopted by many corporations for the dissemination of information, as well as Shareware authors wishing to give their documentation pizzaz. Fully functional, but registration allows cover page personalization. Comes complete with document menuing program that may also be used as an attractive "shell" for invoking other programs as well as AutoText-compiled executables.
autotxt3.zip has replaced autotxt1.zip and autotxt2.zip.

Download: dg53.zip (Jun 8 1997, 108.8K)
Description:
Data-Grep (dg) will search a text file for a given phrase and print all "records" containing that phrase to standard output. Records are free-form chunks of text separated by a standard delimiter, normally an asterisk. Other delimiters can be used. Treating plain paragraphs as delimited records is an option. There are numerous search and output options. The first 1-9 lines of each record may be treated as key lines; the search, report or both may be limited to these lines. You may search for records NOT containing a phrase; search terms may be read from a file; multiple phrases (line-wise or record-wise) may be specified.
Use dg for free form contact records, software requirements, test data, multi-line quotations/references, help files, study notes, to-do files, hobby collectibles, or whatever. dg is most powerful when used in batch files that grab a set of records that are sent for further processing. There are limits on line length, but none on record or file length. dg is for use in a DOS mode only, directly or from batch files. Two UNIX executables (HP and Sun) are included.

If you know how to use a word processor, then you have all the skills necessary to publish your own "electronic" books on a disk.
You can customize each etext publication with your own color combinations, menu position, wallpaper, scrollable regions, opening and closing splash screens.
Even allows you to add DOS commands to your etext publication, along with 256 color .PCX graphic images. EText is an easy to use system that can be used for many purposes.

Description:
This little utility displays a clean ASCII dump of any "fancy" doc file.
Non-standard characters are eliminated. Isolated carriage returns and
line feeds are all converted into standard CRLF. Long lines are
truncated.

Suggested Use: Some .TXT files you can download from the Internet
contain non-standard formatting and won't display correctly on some
editors (notably EDIT.COM and Notepad), fixtxt should make them more
readable.

License: Freeware
Author: Siegbert Mueller
Email: smueller@debis.com
Download: ipsort11.zip (Jul 14 1998, 34.9K)
Description:
IPSORT sorts lines of a text file with a sorting key of IP addresses
located in the lines at a particular column. This column must be
specified as a parameter. The sorting order of the IP addresses is
ascending when the column parameter is positive and it is descending
when the column parameter is negative. Lines with no valid IP addresses
at the specified column are ignored and do not appear in the sorted
output file. The IP addresses must be in the dot notation a.b.c.d with
a,b,c and d between 0 and 255. IP addresses at the specified column may
have leading spaces or tabs. The end of the IP address (this means the
end of the d-address part) in the line is automatically detected and
defined by either the end of the line (carriage return), a space or a
tab or a non-numerical character. If the d-address-part is immediately
followed by another number then the first 3 digits are taken as the
d-address part.
