BinPatch v1.04 is a software package designed to create and apply patches for binary files of any kind. Dramatically reduces download time for software updates through the Internet. Best used for quick series of beta releases by mail. Comfortable handling of complete directory structures for updating. Available for several platforms including DOS/Win3x/Win95/NT, OS/2 and Linux with all compatible formats, so that patches can be created for one platform using BinPatch for another. Minimum file sizes with patches are optimized for packing. May also be useful for incremental backup using patches in some cases and may help to reduce file sizes of complete releases when several programs are using the same compiler. This program is Shareware but fully functional and free for non-commercial usage. First public English release. |

bpc-105s.zip (Feb 3 1998, 8.3K) |
| Description: |
bP Copy v1.05 is a DOS file copier with a number of advantages over the regular Copy and Xcopy commands. bP Copy shows the size of each file being copied, and if a file is large enough, shows a bar graph which acts as a progress indicator. bP Copy can "span" disks: if one disk fills up during a copy procedure, you can continue copying on a new disk. You can copy files with any attribute (including hidden and system) and make the files retain their original atributes using bP Copy's /T (true attribute) switch. Also, since bP Copy was written entirely in assembler, it is faster than most other DOS or Windows file copiers. bP Copy's command syntax is based on the MS-DOS COPY command (i.e. it supports /Y = auto-replace). This software has been tested by numerous beta testers around the world running systems ranging from 8086's with MS-DOS 4.01 to Pentium machines running Windows NT 4.0 with NTFS (the NT File System). |

When I first learned DOS I wondered why you could not execute files other than .EXE, .COM or .BAT. Well, I tired of having to start a graphics program to view a picture, load a music program to listen to a tune, or edit a text file to view it - so I made a little DOS shell that will simplify working in DOS. For Example: Instead of starting a program to view a certain file, all you do is type it's name - and you can view it. (yes just like in windows). |

With DBF2TXT you can easily convert DBF files, including an optional DBT file, into a (more) readable TXT file. You may alternately decide to let the program output a DAT file (ASCII with delimiters), or even HTML. This version (6.X) supports German and English language in one program file, so the annoying renaming (or accepting the _ is gone. Most parameters can be saved, so you don't have to retype them every time. This shareware version has a limit of 100 entries per file, but the full version has virtually no limit. Supports DBF III/IV with and without memo files (DBT). |

Fish v3.04 will really delete files, since the DEL command from DOS leaves data behind which makes deleted files recoverable. Fish has been written to prevent such a thing from happening. By using Fish you can prevent such a thing from ever happening: a file that has been deleted by Fish becomes unrecoverable - Undelete, Unerase or any other tool will be unable to get it back since the data has been physically removed from disk. For extra security, a special compare function can be enabled. Fish offers an easy-to-use, no-nonsense interface. Fish works on any kind of file as long as it is placed on a FAT16 system. Extensive documentation is present to help you if needed. |

Odi's LFN Tools v1.60: These tools provide easy file management under DOS with long filenames created by Win95/98 on FAT32, FAT16 and FAT12, ISO-9660 and Joliet file systems (CD-ROM). They are a replacement for the generic DOS commands (dir, cd, copy, ren, md, rd, del) but have additional features. Very useful when repairing/restoring a Windows installation from any backup media. | Description: |
LFNDOS allows you to use Win95's long filenames from plain DOS mode. Normally, if you restart Windows in MS-DOS mode, then commands like DIR and COPY don't recognise long filenames. LFNDOS provides the LFN services to plain DOS, so these and other commands will work. Any program designed to take advantage of the LFN API should work under LFNDOS. This includes the DOS 7 command.com, and EDIT program, as well as all DJGPP v2-compiled programs. |

| Description: |
MakeTXT can rescue text from documents that will not load into your word processor. Just because a file is incompatible with your word processor doesn't mean you can't extract some, if not all, of the text in the file. MakeTXT converts any file to the world-standard plain text/ASCII format by removing non-standard bytes. Therefore, MakeTXT will make a file in an "incompatible" word processor format load into your word processor. For example, a Word 7.0 file might not ordinarily load into your word processor. But when the file is processed through MakeTXT, the result is a file in ASCII format. When you load this ASCII file into any word processor, you will see the contents of the original file minus special formatting. MakeTXT has optional line wrapping and carriage return/line feed removal. The line wrapping feature makes text fit into the width of the screen without splitting any words in two, making it possible to view a file using DOS's Type or Edit commands. The CR/LF removal eliminates problems caused by "return" codes at the end of each line. |

| Description: |
Multi Patch Compiler/Processor for Web Deployment v1.10 was developed to make direct data changes to binary files, i.e. to make amendments to saved games files, as opposed to using a large (112k) save game editor, just to alter one byte. 'Multi Patch Compiler' supports a simple but powerful scripting language, which allows you to patch binary files in a number of different ways. MPC also has the ability to create stand alone COM files. You can freely distribute version 1.10 and earlier executable, and '*.mpc' files. To give you an idea of how small the distribution files can be, 'Multi Patch Processor' is only 2.81k in size, and on average the '*.mpc' file could be as low as 125 bytes as in the example script. Note: 'Multi Patch Compiler' can be run on any platform that is compatible with MSDOS 3.3. |

The New File Order v1.00 is a handy little directory and file utility that helps you keep track of what's on your drive. It displays all sub-directories and files of a given directory, along with detailed descriptions. NFO will display up to a 72 characters of description for the target directory, and 67 characters for sub-directories and files in this directory. Directory descriptions are read from the FILE_ID.DIZ file in that directory. You can easily edit or view any directory description with one key stroke. You may also define descriptions for files, based on their file extension. NFO's configuration allows you to set up to 18 different extensions. With each extension that you define you'll be able to set which program is to be used to open files with this extension, a description of up to 67 characters long, and the colors to use when displaying these files and their descriptions. Registered versions of NFO allow you to define up to 6 external programs that can be used to load files. |

ReadText uses a special routine to distinguish text from binary code. When given a filename, it removes whatever it finds that looks like binary code in the file. What's left behind is what the program believes to be text only. This program is meant to be used on program or data files, where you think there might be some text information hidden, like game cheats, program usage information, etc. All the text in such binary files, can already be read by any good textviewer, but all the binary code cluttering up can make it difficult to find what you're looking for. Using this program should, by removing most of this code, make your search a little easier. |

Setup Disks Maker PRO (SDM) was intended to make installation packs for DOS a lot easier...in other words it cuts files greater then one diskette into smaller ones fitting to one diskette, thus creating on your HD a series of directories containing the cut file pieces. It is quite comfortable when you want to copy a long file to diskettes and do not want to appeal to any other third party programs for copying it back onto another machine. SDM includes a small and quick program with which you just "stick" back your file from diskettes (or HD). SDM offers an easy-to-understand, user-oriented interface, helping you to do what you need instead of wasting your time on looking for the right options. Built-in help is always there by your side to help you orient yourself. |

Split v1.00 splits large files into smaller segment files of any size. Used for transferring big files to floppy disks, downloading big files in multiple segments, etc. Merge v1.00 does the opposite: merges the segment files into the original file. Operates just like the copy /b DOS command, only more flexible and faster. |

wipe-303.zip (Feb 3 1998, 9K) |
| Description: |
Wipe v3.03 is a DOS utility which can be used in place of DOS's DEL (erase) command to achieve a higher level of data security. Normally, when a file is deleted, DOS hides the file name and marks the file's space as unused. Until that data is overwritten, it can be recovered by a number of high and low-tech disk utilities. Wipe takes two extra steps before deleting the file: first, it overwrites all the data in the file with random garbage, then it destroys the file name. This makes it impossible for anybody to recover the data in the original file. Wipe is very fast because it is written in assembly language, and it uses standard DOS file system calls. Therefore, it is completely compatible with compressed volumes and file systems other than FAT (e.g. HPFS and NTFS). Wipe also detects if it is being run under Windows, and if this is the case it can provide its own "command prompt" to ask for a file name and switches. |
