IOPAT

Summary: MSDOS 7.1 IO.SYS patch for making bootable CDs
License: Freeware
Author: Gary Tong
Email: g.t@mailcity.com
Download: iopat14.zip (Dec 21 1999, 36.2K)
Description:
This program will patch IO.SYS on either a Windows 95 OSR2 or a Windows
98 (i.e. MS-DOS 7.1 FAT32) bootable floppy for use as a boot image on
bootable CD-ROMs. When booting from a CD-ROM, your boot image must load
a CD-ROM driver in order to be able to read any files on the portion of
the CD beyond the boot image. This is normally done by loading a DOS
CD-ROM driver in your boot image's CONFIG.SYS file. The problem is that
loading the CD-ROM driver resets the drive, and some CD-ROM drives take
several seconds to reset, during which time your booting CD is
unreadable. Therefore, when CONFIG.SYS tries to load any additional
device drivers and your command-line interpreter shell, such as
COMMAND.COM, it can't find them and you get an error message like, "The
following file is missing or corrupted: ..." Needless to say, your CD
doesn't completely boot. IOPATCH modifies your MS-DOS 7.1 bootable
floppy's IO.SYS so that the boot process will wait until the disk is
readable before loading each device driver and before loading the
command-line interpreter shell. It also modifies the text displayed
when the disk boots to remind you that you are using a customized
version of IO.SYS.

Summary: Device driver for virtual CDROM
License: Freeware
Author: Carsten Kulms
Email: Carsten.Kulms@stud.uni-hannover.de
Homepage: http://www.stud.uni-hannover.de/~caku/PseudoCD/
Download: pseucd02.zip (Dec 22 1997, 161.3K)
Description:
PseudoCD is a software package to fool DOS applications making them think to work with real CDROM drives while taking the data from an image residing on a hard disk. I.e. a 'PseudoCD' is a combination of an image with a special device driver. The driver is installed and acts like any other CDROM device driver; except for AUDIO support it provides the same functionality. Some functions (e.g. OPEN_DOOR) are simulated, which means they do nothing but pretending to service these requests. All read requests made to the device are performed by reading the corresponding sectors from the image. The package includes the utility needed for image-creation. You can use PseudoCD to improve the performance of CDROM based software or to access multiple 'discs' without swapping, even if you have only one CDROM drive. It may be of use for older notebooks which are not equipped with built-in CDROM drives. With source (C,ASM).

ScreendanceH

Version: 1.0H
Summary: Music Animator & CD Player
License: Shareware
Author: David M Young (Madeira Software, Inc.)
Download: dance10h.zip (Dec 12 1996, 1.3M)
Description:
Screendance v1.0H: ScreenDance lets the music enthusiast turn a computer into an audio entertainment center with an integrated CD player and mixing board, but this time with a new twist: you'll be able to "see" the music graphically on the screen. In its own unique way, each of the included animation modules pumps out real-time imagery in direct response to sound. Animated fractals, exploding marbles, a 3D spectrograph, kadeidoscope, dancing stick figure, and oscilloscope - this is but a sampling of the available animations.
ScreenDance gives you a whole new way of experiencing music; unlike canned music videos that you see on television, ScreenDance produces animations on the fly, as you hear the music. That way you get a limitless variety of visual effects.
The package makes use of a standard CDROM drive to create a full-featured audio CD player with track sequencing, repeat and shuffle modes, and the ability to display and catalog disc and track titles. It even lets you import disc and track title information from the Windows 95 CDPlayer.
The mixer interface allows ScreenDance to work with sound from the CD player, microphone, and line-in jack.
ScreenDance runs in 32-bit extended DOS in order to get the high frame-rates and real-time digital signal processing power needed for the animations to immediately respond to sound.
