ANOGEN

Summary: ANOVA example data generator. Freeware
License: Freeware
Author: Jeff Miller, Dept of Psychology, Univ of Otago
Email: miller@otago.ac.nz
Homepage: http://jomserver.otago.ac.nz/
Download: anogen13.zip (Oct 25 1998, 152.4K)
Description:
AnoGen is a program designed for use in teaching the statistical
procedure known as Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). In brief, it generates
appropriate data sets for use as examples or practice problems, and it
computes the correct ANOVA for each data set. It handles between-
subjects, within-subjects, and mixed designs with a maximum of six
factors and some restrictions on the numbers of levels, subjects, and
model terms. The program can be run in either of two modes: one
designed for use by students; the other, by teachers. Student need only
specify an experimental design, and AnoGen generates an appropriate
random data set and its analysis. The teacher mode allows the user to
adjust cell means and error variance to obtain the desired F values.

BIVAR

Summary: Bivariate random number generator
License: Freeware
Requires: 386 or later processor.
Email: miller@otago.ac.nz
Homepage: http://jomserver.otago.ac.nz/
Download: bivar1_1.zip (Aug 17 1997, 142.5K)
Description:
BIVAR a free program for generating pairs of random numbers from any of a variety of bivariate probability distributions. The user chooses the marginal distributions of X and Y (which need not be the same) and chooses one of three different types of bivariate structures to induce positive or negative XY correlations. The random numbers are written to an ASCII output file, which can then be used as input to a user-written simulation program needing correlated random numbers. BIVAR was designed for use in batch files, so all program control information is read from an ASCII file of input parameters that the user creates with an editor prior to starting BIVAR.

Download: cupid1_1.zip (Jan 23 1997, 170.7K)
Description:
CUPID is a Freeware program for doing Computations with Univariate Probability Distributions. It is useful for computing predictions from probabilistic models, but is not directly suitable for data analysis. From any of a large number of standard or derived probability distributions, CUPID can compute the mean, median, variance, skewness, (conditional) moments, PDF, CDF, inverse CDF, hazard function, or moment-generating function, Ln(Likelihood). It can also generate random numbers and carry out some rudimentary parameter estimation.

DS

Summary: Bulk Descriptive Stats (execs and C srcs)
License: Freeware
Requires: 80286 with 8087 math co-processor, or better, to run the sample executables.
Email: jcm@mail.EUnet.pt
Homepage: http://home.EUnet.pt/~jcm/
Download: ds0.zip (Jun 2 1997, 66.7K)
Description:
The four programs differ in output, source code, and prompt language. The output common to all is: N, sum of X, sum of X squares, maximum X, minimum X, mean, root mean square, descriptive variance, descriptive standard deviation, variation coeff. percent, inferential variance, inferential standard deviation.
Versions 1 (ds1*.exe) perform a single file pass; versions 2 (ds2*.exe) load a vector for a second pass in RAM for further calculations (median in both, skewness and kurtosis on the Turbo C version, ds2.exe). The two ANSI C (hopefully) versions (ds?u.exe) use English prompts; the corresponding Turbo C 2.0 (or better) versions (ds?.exe) use Portuguese prompts and allow multiple file selection and wildcards.
On a 80486DX/50 with a 1 GB Western Digital disk, DS1 processes 50000 Pascal random floats in 5.5 s.

MVSP, a multivariate statistical package, is a program for the IBM- PC
and compatibles that performs a variety of ordination and cluster
analyses. It provides an inexpensive yet easy means of analyzing your
data in fields ranging from ecology and geology to sociology and market
research. MVSP performs several types of eigenanalysis ordinations:
principal components (PCA), principal coordinates (PCO), and
correspondence/detrended correspondence analyses (CA/DCA). It can also
perform cluster analysis, using nineteen different distance or
similarity measures and seven clustering strategies. Diversity indices
may be calculated on ecological data; these include Simpson's,
Shannon's, and Brillouin's indices. Data matrices up to 750x750 may be
analyzed.
