These programs are aimed at students aged between 4 and 12 years old. All programs maintain individual score and progress charts to challenge the student to do better next time. Certificates are available on screen and in print.
ABLE TABLE - A maths program covering tables, multiplication, division, adding, subtracting, and percentages). Addition and subtraction have the option to use decimals.
ABLE WORD - Students learn to recognise words in their correct spelling. Works with flash cards on the screen. More than 2,300 words are contained in the program. In addition you can add your own individual word lists.
ABLE COPY - Students learn how to use the keyboard, while practising spelling at the same time. Because the words stay on the screen, students will be able to use words from a higher level than they would otherwise be able to.
ABLE SPELL - Students learn to recognise the "make-up" of words. They assemble words by moving a little character around the screen to select letters for the words to build.
ABLE GUESS - Students are encouraged to guess the words before they are displayed in full on the screen. Correct guesses are rewarded with score points, but incorrect guesses mean that points are deducted. Big letters.
ABLE MATCH - A word association program, teaching students to interpret words. You create your own word lists. For example, a list with opposites (low - high, up - down, etc.). Useful to learn languages. Sample lists included.
ABLE CHOICE - A Multiple Choice program that will give you hours of fun! Design your own question sets and play against time or another player. If you like Trivial Pursuit, then you will certainly like this! Sample question sets included.
ABLE CALC - Mental arithmetic for more advanced students. The program challenges the player to use addition and/or subtraction to total a number of grid squares. If this is correctly done, the player moves on to a larger grid. Additional number games are included as rewards for good progress.
ABLE MENU - A handy utility which comes with the above. Gives easy access to your ABLE programs. Included is an addictive little calculator game (Catch'em) which challenges the player to apply basic arithmetic. Good at any age.

Budget & Investment

Summary: a real-life simulation
License: Shareware
Requires: Color display
Email: WJimer6887@aol.com
Download: budget10.zip (Mar 11 1997, 104.9K)
Description:
Budget & Investment is a program designed to stimulate the students' thinking skills by presenting them with a real life situation. They are given the task of making their money stretch to cover everyday expenses while still having enough to invest wisely in the stock market. The program assigns each student (up to 38 can be in the registry at any one time) a salary, deducts federal tax, state tax, and social security. What money is left is paid at the beginning of each session (one session is considered a week by the program.) Each student is given $1,000 at the start to help them buy stock right away.
Using their salary, the student must pay bills such as grocery, car repairs, entertainment, etc each week. Every four weeks they must pay rent and utilities also. Insurance must be paid every twelve weeks. If there is any money left, the students may visit the stock broker to buy or sell stock. They may view stock performance in table and chart format before making their decisions. Planning is important because only one buy/sell visit to the broker is allowed in each session. Also, negative bank balances are not allowed - just as in life - so if a student cannot pay their bills, they must sell stock. A program session cannot be completed while there are bills waiting to be paid.
The registered version covers 26 weeks and includes reproducible sheets to be used by the student to track and chart their balances, stocks, and so forth. The Shareware version is a demonstration only and will not go beyond the third week.

CDMS

Version: 1.1
Summary: Classroom Data Management System v1.1
License: Sharware
Requires: Hard drive with 2MB
Email: WJimer6887@aol.com
Download: cdms11.zip (Feb 11 1997, 229.8K)
Description:
The Classroom Data Management System v1.1 is a teacher tool which can be used by classroom teachers to help keep track of student information. There are three main areas of data tracked:
1) Roster Information - includes student name, address, DOB, sex, phone
number, and contact name. The roster will hold 36 students. You can
add to the database or display current information. In the registered
version you can also alter student roster data.
2) Attendance Information - includes entries for every day of the year.
Teachers can set attendance data globally (all students in the roster)
for Holidays, Non-scheduled days, Conference days, and Days present
(of course these can be set individually as well.) In addition, they
can set absences, days tardy, and half days individually by student.
Summary reports show the total number of student days, days present
(number and percent), days absent (number and percent), number of
holidays, conference days, suspensions, etc.
3) Grade Information - Grades are tracked in ten categories (each is
named by the teacher - e.g. Math, Science, Social Studies, etc. - and
four sub-categories for each main category (homework, tests, projects,
and misc.) Each grade can be individually weighted and has its own
comment field. Grades are entered in percent format (0-100) or letter
(e.g. A) for each student.
Reports (which show averages as determined by weights) are available as
1) Summary for all Categories
2) Summary for 1 Category
3) Summary for one Student in all categories
4) Summary for one Student in one Category and one sub-category.
Weighting of grades is important since a quiz entered in the test subcategory certainly does not count as much in grading as a chapter or unit test. Therefore you can weight quizes as 1, chapter tests as 3, and unit tests as 5 (examples only). This would mean the chapter test counts 3 times as much as the quiz, and the unit test counts 5 times as much. Weights (and student grades) can be changed at any time.
You can have up to 80 grades per subcategory per student which means that there can be up to 320 grades for each student in each catagory (320 grades in science, for example.) With ten categories to choose from, each student could have up to 3,200 grades entered for the school year.
4) There is a lesson plan generator built-in to v1.1 (this is a new addition to the program). This plan generator provides the proper format for a lesson plan including:
Plan Title
Teacher name
Date created
Grade Level(s)
Subject Area
Objective
Materials list (up to 20 materials can be listed per plan)
Procedure (up to 20 steps can be listed per plan)
You can view the plan on the screen or print it. In the registered version of the program, you can also save up to 100 lesson plans on the hard disk.
The Shareware version is limited to the 1996 / 1997 school year while the full version allows you to enter any starting year. Also, the Shareware version has a preset password - classroom (all lower case) - which cannot be changed. The registered version allows you to set the password to anything you want.

Coded Quotes

Summary: Educational game of anagrams
License: Shareware
Email: WJimer6887@aol.com
Download: codeq.zip (Jan 19 1997, 42.5K)
Description:
Coded Quotes is a fun and potentially challenging game of anagrams. Quotes from famous people throughout history are presented in a numerical code and your job is to figure out what letter belongs with what number. Coded Quotes has two levels of difficulty; in Easy mode once you find a letter which matches a number, the computer will fill in all of the rest of the places for that letter in the quote for you. In Hard mode, you are responsible for filling in all of the blanks; the computer will not help. Featured is a file to track the ten highest scores for each mode. The high score list can be reset at any time.
The Shareware version, which has all of the features of the registered program, includes 25 quotes and, since the anagrams are randomly generated each time, you will most likely never get the same one twice. You can complete the game on the computer or print it out with the press of a key to be done on paper.
This program was written to provide an independent activity for students in the classroom. However, anyone who enjoys activities requiring some thinking will enjoy this.

- Matching Question and Answer Quiz, where a number of questions are

The quiz can be fully customized. All colors, presentation screens, results graphs and final Comments can be changed to make the quiz your unique program. A quiz can start and end with a graphic, voice file or any other executable program.
Questions are presented randomly from a question bank and there is an option to force all questions to be taken or to allow the student to choose the number of questions to take.
